It’s that time of year again – marathon training season has begun.
Congratulations to those of you starting out on your marathon training journey. It doesn’t matter if you won your place in a ballot, or have committed to raise money for a charity, the end goal is the same.
Like many of you I began my training for my first marathon in January, but that was over 10 years ago. I followed a plan from Runner’s World magazine and trained religiously building up carefully to the long runs. I looked after my body with good recovery strategies between the runs. As a result, I reached my target time, and as a bonus was able to walk the next day.
The following year I entered again, but was not so good at sticking to the plan. I was slower, my hips hurt after 20 miles, making even walking a challenge to reach the finish line! The next few days felt like someone had been hitting my thighs with a hammer. I didn’t enjoy the experience at all.
A training plan is so much more than a timetable of runs from a magazine. The plan should include what you need to do between those running sessions to help your body recover.
I can help you create your personal plan. Book a Marathon Training Package online and save yourself money and pain, and achieve the results you want.
